To work with Lead Electrician to provide maximum services utilizing electrician skills and abilities to assist our cooperative members with their electrical and generator needs by rendering prompt, efficient service and communications that promote goodwill between the cooperative and its members.

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent. Completion of an electrician program at a technical or trade school preferred.
  • Must have at least a current Oklahoma Residential Journeyman Electrician license.
  • Commit to obtaining a Contractor Electrician license as soon as possible.
  • Must be able to read, write and perform basic mathematical computations.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft programs
  • Work experience preferred in which there has been a demonstrated ability to carry out the position responsibilities.

  • Must possess the skills to develop and maintain effective working relationships with the public, members, fellow employees, etc.
  • Must show respect for the public’s property and privacy.
  • Must be able to project a favorable image for Kay Electric Cooperative.
  • Must have interest in proper care and handling of vehicles and related equipment.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to learn and apply safety rules and regulations.
  • Must have a sound knowledge of the National Electric Code. Must be familiar with or become quickly familiar with the service territory and the distribution system of the Cooperative.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Valid Oklahoma Driver’s License required.
  • CDL preferred or ability to obtain post-hire.
  • Must obtain and maintain all Generac generator certifications to service Kay Electric generator maintenance contracts.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assemble, install, repair, test, service, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, generators, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures using hand tools, power tools, and other equipment, which includes routine generator oil changes.
  • Inspect electrical systems, generators, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, including engine repair, and to ensure compliance with electric codes.
  • Plan for the layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures based on job specifications and local codes. Estimate sizes, distances, and quantities needed. Determine time, costs, resources, or materials needed to perform a work activity, including preliminary sketches and cost estimates for materials and services.
  • Perform business management duties such as maintaining records and files, preparing reports, and ordering supplies and equipment.
  • Work from bucket trucks, ladders, scaffolds, attics, and roofs to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures.
  • Records and reports any potential hazards to the respective Operations Department and Engineering Department.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • Walk over rugged terrain and cross fences, ditches, and creeks as required.
  • Drive long distances within the service territory (up to 250 miles/day).
  • Work outdoors in adverse weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.).
  • This position is classified as a Safety Sensitive position and must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and enter/exit vehicle frequently.

Additional Requirements

  • Must be available for after-hours assignments during outages or emergencies.
  • Must maintain a safety-conscious attitude and follow all Cooperative policies.
  • Must live within a reasonable distance of the Cooperative headquarters.
