Job Description

Under the supervision of the Director of Accounting. Processes financial and accounting transactions for Kay Electric Cooperative, Inc. Works closely with all departments to understand and ensure accuracy of all financial reporting activity. Assists in preparation and distribution of financial statements. Provides support through general bookkeeping tasks, including, but not limited to, the review of accounting and billing transactions and ensuring their completeness and accuracy, and reconciliation of basic financial data.

Job Related Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in accounting, business, finance, or related field.
  • Up to three years of relevant experience and/or training.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as organizational skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills, both internal and external.
  • Strong proficiency in fundamental and applied mathematical computations.
  • Complete all assignments with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all sensitive and confidential business matters.
  • Attend periodic seminars, training programs, conferences, civic and professional events as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, finance, or related field.
  • Three years’ related experience.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain accurate financial records in compliance with GAAP and Cooperative policies.
  • Accurately prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and trial balances.
  • Maintain the accounts payable and vendor records.
  • Process vendor invoices, prepare payments, and reconcile statements.
  • Process check requests, expense reports, and invoices for payment.
  • Perform timely bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
  • Assist in preparing financial statements, reports, and summaries.
  • Support monthly and year-end financial statement preparation and audit processes.
  • Cross-train with other positions as directed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Frequently operate standard office equipment, including, but not limited to, phone, computer, copy and fax machine, all of which require touch and vision.
  • Ability to sit or stand for lengthy periods of time, carry light loads and lift 20 pounds.
  • Position is subject to pre-employment substance abuse testing and may be subject to random testing in accordance with the Cooperative’s substance abuse policy.
