Job Description
The Water Operator is responsible for the operation, maintenance, repair, and monitoring of the Rural Water District 7
water distribution system to ensure the delivery of safe, reliable drinking water in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. This position performs inspections, maintenance, emergency repairs, water quality testing, and customer service activities while promoting a safe work environment.
Job Related Qualifications
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor rural water distribution system.
- Inspect, maintain, and repair water service lines, valves, hydrants, pumps, meters, and related equipment.
- Collect water samples and perform routine water quality testing.
- Monitor system pressures, storage tanks, and pumping operations.
- Read, repair, replace, and install water meters.
- Respond to water outages, leaks, line breaks, and emergency service calls.
- Locate underground water utilities before excavation.
- Assist with installation of new water services and system improvements.
- Operate heavy equipment including backhoes, excavators, skid steers, trenchers, and service vehicles.
- Perform preventative maintenance on equipment and facilities.
- Complete work orders, inspection reports, maintenance records, and regulatory documentation.
- Participate in an after-hours on-call rotation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Previous experience in water distribution, utility construction, or related field preferred, but not required.
- Valid Oklahoma Driver License required.
- Oklahoma DEQ Water Operator License or ability to obtain within required timeframe.
- Knowledge of water distribution systems and treatment processes.
- Ability to read utility maps and blueprints.
- Knowledge of pumps, valves, hydrants, and water system components.
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and heavy equipment safely.
- Must be able to interact well with internal and external customers. Always conveys professional interaction, thereby maintaining positive relations.
- Must be able to operate standard company technology/equipment.
- Maintains working knowledge of Cooperative Bylaws, policies, procedures, and safety manual.
- Must be able to attend periodic seminars and training programs.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
- Frequently lift up to 75 pounds.
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Walk, climb, kneel, bend, crawl and work in confined spaces.
- Work overtime and respond to emergencies, as needed.
- Must be able to attend periodic seminars and training programs.
